More Changes Coming My Way

Some of you may have wondered what happened to me. I've been pretty MIA these last few months. Lot's of new changes are coming my way. For one, we are expecting our second child. The first trimester was especially rough this time and with my RA and trying not to take meds, I had the awful pregnancy symptoms that many experience and I had horrible flare-ups with my RA. But as I'm about to approach the half way point of this pregnancy I'm starting to feel pretty good.
Next area of news is that I also accepted a new job that is close to home and I get to spend more time with my family. This is a great opportunity for my to expand my career and experience another area of ultrasound that I have been missing. I'm very excited. But with this new job comes some study and prepping to sit for another nation board exam. So as much as I would like to say that I will be able to get more posts out to you, I fear that that will not be the case. However, my training for these new credentials will not be starting until the Fall, so I'm hoping to provide you with some great DIY projects this Summer and share how we'll prepare our new nursery.
I just want to thank everyone who keeps coming back and checking in on me. You guys are great!

Pinspiration Sunday: DIY Burp Cloths

My best friend is going to give birth to her first child, a little girl, in May and I wanted to make her something for her and baby. That's when I decided to make her some burp cloths. Because let's face it...she's gonna need 'em!

I pinned a tutorial many moons ago from Dana over at Made. She has a great tutorial on this very simple and very adorable project. Honestly, I whipped these up in no time.

Here's what I used:
fabric- I purchased 3 different patterned flannel fabrics cut to a half yard each and a super soft fabric and got a yard of that. (now if you are only going to make a few this is a lot of fabric. I figured I could make some binky straps and have left overs for anyone else I know who may have a daughter down the road)
scissors
thread ( I used white for all of them)
pins
ruler
sewing machine

I cut my fabric, just as Dana had suggested, to measure 10 X 18 inches. I ironed the patterned fabric as needed

Next place the fabrics together facing one another

Pin around all the edges.

Next, start sewing. I started part way on the top and sewed around all edges. You'll want to leave a little gap at one area that has not been sewn so that you can flip the fabric to the correct side.

Before you turn it right side out, cut across each corner.

Then turn it out.

Next sew along the outside. This allows you to seal up the opening you used to turn the fabric out and it keeps that line all the way around.

Then split the burp cloth into thirds and sew two lines from side to side. This will help the fabrics stay together and give a nice area to fold.

There you have it...you're done! So simple and super cute!

Letterboxing

letterboxing.org

I came across letterboxing a while back. I had never heard of such a thing before. For those of you who have also never heard of such a thing here’s how it works. Basically it’s a treasure hunt for homemade stamps. You can find ones in your area by visiting the Letterboxing website. Now some people tell you step by step how to locate them, others are clever and make up riddles but in the end you will (hopefully) find a box with a stamp inside. When I found out about this I was so excited…what a great family fun adventure?!?!? My husband loves geocaching which is where people give you the longitude and latitude coordinates and you have to use a GPS system to locate whatever they have hidden. So this encompasses my husband's love for looking, maybe even hiking, adventure with my love of crafting. Since it’s only January and our weather has been less than favorable for outdoor quests this gives me plenty of time to make my own book to stamp and chronicle our discoveries. I’m thinking about making a printable for it. Maybe a page to list the date, time and place with an area to stamp your new find and also maybe add a picture (I’ll use my Polaroid 300). So I urge you to check out the letterboxing website to see how many great hidden treasures are near you!
